Disaster Recovery Testing
The Client
Steelstruct Engineering (est.1979) is a privately owned, highly regarded Western Australian company providing steel fabrication, hardfacing and precision machining services to Australia’s mining and resource markets.
Project Summary
Having the ability to quickly restore our hosted IT systems was flagged as a requirement to minimise our risk profile. A solution that securely replicated all virtual machines into a suitably certified data centre was required. The Managed Recovery Service was implemented.
The Strategy
The Managed Recovery Service is checked daily by qualified Focus Networks systems staff. Every month a verification exercise is completed to randomly restore a virtual machine. Every year a full recovery test is completed for all virtual machines in a sandboxed environment:
- Recovery procedure checklist (8 steps)
- Client application testing (6 steps)
- Recovery notes and client signoff
Proven Results
The latest annual full recovery test was successfully completed within five hours. Two terrabytes of corporate data was restored, validated and signed off by Steelstruct Engineering staff to confirm a full disaster recovery test.
Focus Networks completed a successful restore of all virtual machines. In the event of a disaster, a quick restoration process can restore all virtual machines to bring our operations back online within five hours.
